AmericasMart, which annually hosts the Atlanta International Area Rug Market and the National Oriental Rug Show, is sponsoring its first exhibition of traditional rug weaving and has picked Armenian rugs for its first topic.
The exhibition dates are, January 19-22, 2006 Megerian Rugs is co-sponsoring with the Armenian Rugs Society and the Oriental Rug Retailers Association. This exhibit, entitled Armenian Odyssey, will be held during the National Oriental Rug Show at the AmericasMart Complex, Building 1, 2nd floor, in Atlanta, Georgia.
There will be an opening cocktail reception at 4:00 pm on Thursday, January 19 with Armenian government and trade officials attending. On Friday January 20 at 10:00 am there will be a breakfast seminar given by the world renowned expert on Armenian Art and Architectural history, Dr. Lucy Der Manuelian, of Tufts University. The Sardarabad Museum of Armenia will exhibit rare historical rugs never before shown in the west. The Armenian Rugs Society will exhibit inscribed and dated Armenian rugs from members’ private collections. The special gallery, showcasing both antique and antique reproductions loaned for the event by collectors and curators, will be open throughout the market.
